Cost pressures and lack of awareness of underlying risks are just some of the reasons why IT security in the automation technology sector is not given the consideration it deserves here in Germany (unlike abroad).

Both in Germany and abroad damages can cause outages, data loss, danger to employees and assets as well as to the population and environment. Sadly this would always results in economic damages for your enterprise. If the incident occurs in the media or public spotlight then serious damage could be caused to your reputation and at worst there could be demands for compensation. Ultimately the management may have to bear responsibility.    

A recent study carried out by the IT analysts IDC on 400 global enterprises showed that just internally caused IT incidents on average led to 615,000 US Dollars worth of damages.

These types of damages cannot be stopped simply with a process plant firewall- a multi layered security concept that is continuously adapted to requirements is needed.
